Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) & Lymphedema Management (LE)
Manual Lymph Drainage is a gentle, rhythmic type of bodywork that focuses on your lymphatic system. Your lymphatic system runs throughout your whole body and moves fluid in a specific flow pattern. Along the way are areas we like to think of as processing stations (lymph nodes). Some of the most familiar ones are in your armpits and behind your knees.
Unlike your circulatory system, which has the heart as its pump, your lymphatic system relies on movement and muscle contractions to keep fluid moving. Stress, illness, limited mobility, autoimmune conditions, injury, and surgery can all slow things down or disrupt the usual routes. When a processing station isn't working the way it should, lymphatic fluid needs a little extra help finding a new route. That's where MLD comes in.

Why people come to us for MLD
|
People often book MLD for swelling and puffiness, recovery after surgery (including cosmetic procedures), lipedema, lymphedema, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, headaches, sinus congestion, and stress. It's also deeply relaxing. Many people are surprised by how calm they feel afterward.
Lymphedema managementLymphedema management is more involved than general MLD and is offered by therapists with specialized training. We're happy to work alongside your care team.

How often should I come in?
That depends on why you're coming in. Some people come regularly for a while after surgery, others come in for ongoing support. Let's talk about what makes sense for you.
What to expect
MLD is very light. It might feel different from any massage you've had before, and that's exactly how it's supposed to feel. You'll undress to your comfort level and stay covered with linens the entire session. Only the area being worked on is uncovered, and it's tucked back in as soon as we're done with it. Prefer to stay clothed? That's completely fine. Just wear something light and comfortable, like athletic or yoga clothes.
Need the lights lower, a quieter room, a shorter session, or a caregiver with you? Just tell us. We'll adjust.
